Shauna Ryan

Shauna Ryan – Personal Trainer.

Hello I am Shauna and I am 26 years old.

Although I am a Tipperary woman, I completed my undergraduate and master’s right here in Cork and it has become somewhat of a second home.

In December of 2020 I completed my master’s in Positive and Coaching Psychology, a field of applied psychology that uses positive psychological theories and concepts within the practice of coaching. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the course where I learned scientific approaches to helping clients increase performance, well-being, become more resilient, enhance and apply strengths, as well as plan and achieve valued goals.

I knew going into my Masters that I wanted to link the field to personal training to create a more whole person approach to health, that is both psychological as well as physical. My thesis involved interviewing trainers on their own experiences working one on one with clients and the challenges they had to face given the Covid-19 pandemic. This gave me great insight into the role of personal trainers, the responsibility they hold and the impact they can have on people’s lives, before completing my own personal training qualifications this summer.

My interest in health and fitness began with my own experience of the effect that exercise has on mental health and clarity. I always say that no matter what kind of a day you are having you never regret a workout, you always feel at the very least a little bit better, after all it’s a free endorphin boost!!

I was delighted to be offered the position in F1T. I have always wanted to help people in some capacity and being in that position now within a team that has been more welcoming and so like minded, seems like a dream! I am looking forward to getting to know more and more of our members through personal training sessions and individual class zones in Grange and Ballincollig. Any questions or queries please do come up to me, I would only be delighted to have a chat and help in any way that I can!
